Well, the old year is gone, its miserable corpse falling to dust unmourned. The new year rises amidst the foul stench of spent fireworks and alcohol, shakes off the confetti and ambles on wobbly legs into an uncertain future.
The landscape is shrouded in a thick layer of snow. Walking requires a conscious effort. A soft crunch not unlike the rustling of cellophane wrappers accompanies each step. The breath of the lonely wanderer hangs in the air like a ghost, before it vanishes without a trace. It is getting dark. As the twighlight deepens to inky black lights begin to appear behind windows. Their yellow glow beckons, promising warmth and companionship. They, too, will be home soon and join the festive revelries.
I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
An icy wind howles around the house and rattles the windowpanes. Winter, long overdue, had silently arrived in the night, hurled a shower of snowflakes for the sheer fun of it and left the lawn dusted with snow. In the pale morning light a woman stands gazing at bright red rosehips in a tiny vase, the mug of steaming tea in her hand momentarily forgotten.
Two witches, keen on brewing potions, have met to enjoy a relaxing afternoon. Yowl!!! „Herta! I told you to leave the cat alone!“ „But we have run out of black hair of a naughty cat. The recipe does not say it has to be centuries old.“ „Have it your way. Pass me the jar with gnats eyeballs, please. Oh, and don´t forget to add footslime of snails to potion number 8.“ „We only have one snail. How am I supposed to make it excrete slime?“ „I don´t know. Tickle it.“
Recently I passed a huge thicket of brambles spilling untamed over a fence. To my disappointment no knight in need of rescue was tangled in the branches.
